Swimming & Beach time

Mani offers a variety of beautiful beaches, some more crowded with beach bars, umbrellas and sunbeds, others practically deserted, uncluttered and idyllically peaceful. Whether sandy or with pebbles, the crystal blue of the Laconian Bay is the one thing they all have in common. How many of them you visit will depend only on how far you are in the mood to drive! In any case, the closest beach awaits you only 1km away from home!

MAVROVOUNI BEACH (1km)

A stone’s throw from Villa Klotildi, by Mavrovouni village, you will come across over five kilometres of sand and cobalt blue waters. This is the largest beach in the area, mainly sandy with small pebbles in the shallows. It is a popular beach that has several organized areas with all the facilities, but also plenty of free beach for those who prefer to steer away from the crowds. There are cafés, snack bars and tavernas along the length of the beach as well as in the village’s central square. The regular, afternoon breeze in Mavrovouni, provides ideal conditions for windsurfing and there are several rental places where you can hire equipment and book an instructor.

SELINITSA BEACH (3 km)

Selinitsa, to the east of the port of Gythio, is a broad sandy beach where the endangered Caretta-Caretta turtles come to lay their eggs in the summer. Here you can choose between the comfort of umbrellas and sunbeds or the beauty of roughing it further along the beach! Whichever you decide, Selinitsa offers several choices when it comes to snacking or having a proper meal, with beach bars, cafés and restaurants on the beachfront.

AGERANOS, SKOUTARI AND FURTHER (~15 km)

At approximately 15km from Gythio, driving along the coast, you will come across three excellent beaches in a row, starting with Ageranos (also known as Vathi), on to Kamares and finally Skoutari. All three are a mixture of sand and small pebbles with crystal clear water, have trees practically all the way to the waterline and are generally less frequented than the beaches close to Gythio even in high season. Again, you will find some facilities such as umbrellas, drinks and snacks and plenty of local food.

Further to the south and west Mani has countless beaches, picturesque villages and places of interest which can all be easily visited on day-trips; it all depends on your mood and sense of adventure!
